But it’s probably not too much hassle to do that manually. Maybe the only thing I’d be missing is the presence of backlinks, to be able to see what entries link to a particular entry. A daily readible automatic backup or export to Google Drive or Dropbox or similar would be a must.Īt this point Dynalist seems to tick all of these boxes. Having an alternative visualisation of the linked entries as a mindmap or a network would be a bonus. ![]() My ideal is an almost purely plain text based system using markdown (though enabling the inline display of images), with the ability to do linking any part of the text to any other entry (basically a very simple wiki), to add categories, with a way to be able to see and manage the list of categories, and some way of using colour to mark up selected entries. I have toyed with the idea of moving my CT notes to DokuWiki, but it seemed too fiddly and requiring too much technical involvement in maintaining it, and too many different services and payments involved, from paying for the server to paying for a different service to back up the server etc. My only issue with CT is that it is Windows based and single-device based (I don’t like the idea of using the USB version), as I’d prefer a cloud solution for this use. >library, especially since I don’t want to install Python 2.7 on my newĪt least on Windows, few software can rival the flexibility of ConnectedText when it comes to constructing a Zettelkasten, especially when talking about categorising an entry and linking it to other entries. ![]() I recalled long hours of sitting up with friends playing the original and am pleased to say that Worms 2 can still give you the same satisfying glow of nuking a loved one's army. Where Worms is most rewarding however is in the Theatre of Cruelty multiplayer mode. I think it was the voices she liked best, the Worms chatter in cute, high-pitched tones. It rewarded my inventive and positive thinking and I felt validated by that. I found myself constantly going back and trying new tactics, because the game responds to that type of creativity. That frustration didn't turn to anger though. However, during the Campaign mode I hit the wall a couple of times - frustrating hours of working out the best strategy to take down my opponents, when every missile they delivered was frighteningly accurate and my forces were destroyed with ease. It occurred to me this was one of gaming's few acceptable representations of suicide bombing. Willingly they laid down their lives for me, blowing themselves up, as well as the enemy. My team, Hell's Rejects, composed of Compo, Clegg, Foggy and Derek, were to become my best friends across the 35 missions that constitute the Campaign mode. It's hard not to feel attached to your team of worms. I was soon lost in the classic Worms buzz that comes from puzzle solving and wiping out the enemy. Worms 2 however, quickly overcomes any feelings of Proustian displacement. Now, feeling nostalgia is often pleasurable, but can sometimes overwhelm your sense of enjoyment about playing the game itself, for example, when I downloaded The Secret of Monkey Island to my iPhone last year I spent a long time switching between the updated and original graphics simply for the effect of being transported back to a time far away in my past, rather than concentrating on the game's challenges. In my mind's game catalogue Worms sat somewhere between James Pond, Lemmings and Cannon Fodder as examples of bright cartoon games that were designed to make the most of the Amiga's graphical capabilities. Upon downloading Worms 2 I found myself suddenly feeling very nostalgic indeed. It's a fun, colourful affair that brings simple, addictive joy to your Game Library. Generally speaking, the nods and references to the original movie are unneeded here, though Devin Ratray as a grown Buzz McCallister actually serves a story purpose.Ĭomedian Aisling Bea plays Max's mom, Carol, and together she and her Max have a fun smartass back-and-forth dynamic. This part of the rebootquel is unaltered and untweaked (unlike the rest of the franchise hallmarks) and that makes it feel like a nostalgia experiment. Jeff and Pam's mission is ostensibly honorable, though, like most cinematic victims of misunderstandings, they're punished for resorting to sneakiness instead of being straightforward.Īs far as the assault on Max's estate is concerned, it's almost like the dangerous traps and pranks in Home Sweet Home Alone were conceived as a winking bit - you know, ironically. The film relies on a series of Three's Company-style mix-ups to propel the story forward, leading three generally okay people into a maelstrom of mayhem and pain. Max is just not set up to be the protagonist the way Kevin was decades ago. They're obnoxious, he's pissy, and all of it, as expected, just plays a bit differently in 2021. Like Kevin before him, he's surrounded by a marauding horde of a family. Yates is fairly good as the precocious Max. And when the lead characters are a struggling couple just trying to make ends meet, and who think Max's giant opulent manor (complete with Max falling asleep inside some blatant BMW product placement) holds the key to their family's salvation, it's for think pieces (also presumably). When billiard balls are being weaponized and shot at people's faces, it's for the kids (presumably). When dialogue's being spoken, it's for the benefit of the grownups in the audience. Director Dan Mazer (writer, Borat & Borat Subsequent Moviefilm) and writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell (both SNL) craft a family film littered with good gags, decent jokes, and quirky performances adults will enjoy. Like, as much as young kids enjoy movies filled with slapstick, mess, and calamity, how do they feel about people who are being foreclosed on getting set on fire? Or having teeth knocked out? Not to read too deep into Home Sweet Home Alone, since the original also featured a rich kid defending his McMansion, but the background class war noise here makes it so you don't want to see Jeff and Pam, you know, get their ribs broken, or lose, um, skin.Īll of that taken into consideration, Home Sweet Home Alone isn't the fully grotesque idea you might think it is. ![]() Naturally, you can't have a Home Alone film without a third act filled with buffoonish beatings, but here it plays out like a cringe exhibit. It's the franchise's trademark violence that makes the film especially odd. Meanwhile, Max is mauling them with expensive LEGO sets and a never-ending supply of food and drink. Delaney and Kemper's Jeff and Pam are just parents in danger of losing their home, unable to afford what they need. It's more their story than it is Archie Yates' Max, whose wealthy family of 20 or so all fly off to Tokyo for Christmas. ![]() Here, Rob Delaney and Ellie Kemper's robbers are the heart, and also centerpiece, of the movie. # Set TLS 1.2 (3072) as that is the minimum required by various up-to-date repositories. # We initialize a few things that are needed by this script - there are no other requirements. # You need to have downloaded the Chocolatey package as well. Out of pure curiosity, I think I need to try it this weekend. perhaps utilizing something like IFTTT you could send a web page to Instapaper, Readability, or Pocket and IFTTT could then spit that page out to the Dropbox folder which Automator would then print out. Only thing I can see not working would be printing from within apps or printing a web page. And you set that Dropbox folder up with an Automator action to watch it and "Print Finder Items". It just dawned on me that you could save documents, photos, screenshots, etc., to a Dropbox folder. ![]() So the lantronix print server works fine, just check the list of supported printers for automatic setup first, so you're not wasting your time wondering why it's not working.Īn idea just dawned on me, has anyone tried setting up an Automator workflow to cobble something like AirPrint together, without 3rd party solutions and works with any printer accessible to by your Mac? Once I got there, setup took 5 minutes, easy peasy. I had to download the full documentation off the lantronix website, where they had the list of supported printers for automatic setup, and directions to the webified control center (self hosted by the print server), neither of which is mentioned in the docs that come with the device. However at first it wasn't exactly clear to me why the print server wasn't working, since their easy setup docs don't mention the list of printers, and the device itself only 3 statuses based on the lights, which are basically "autonegotiating", "everything's fine", and "problem". I set up a lantronix print server on an unsupported printer, and it was easy to do using the built in web app. Just keep in mind that the auto setup only works with a specific list of printers. If you want to spend a bit of money, the Lantronix print server is great. ![]() The location of the voltage minima and maxima on the line, starting from the load. A long line with characteristic impedance Z 0 = 100 Ω operates at 1 GHz. Problems 15.1.1 General Design Using the Smith Chart This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. The examples provided here are solved using graphical tools and a printed Smith chart, rather than the computer program, to emphasize the techniques and approximations involved although some of the numerical results listed were obtained with a computerized Smith chart ( smith-chart.m) available with this text ( see page xi). A computerized Smith chart can then be used to analyze conditions on lines. Naturally, any chart can also be implemented in a computer program, and the Smith chart has, but we must first understand how it works before we can use it either on paper or on the screen. Some measuring instruments such as network analyzers actually use a Smith chart to display conditions on lines and networks. Although the Smith chart is rather old, it is a common design tool in electromagnetics. As such, it allows calculations of all parameters related to transmission lines as well as impedances in open space, circuits, and the like. The Smith chart is a chart of normalized impedances (or admittances) in the reflection coefficient plane. This has been accomplished in a rather general tool called the Smith chart. Thus, the following proposition: Build a graphical chart (or an equivalent computer program) capable of representing the reflection coefficient as well as load impedances in some general fashion and you have a simple method of designing transmission line circuits without the need to perform rather tedious calculations. You may also recall, perhaps with some fondness, the complicated calculations which required, in addition to the use of complex variables, the use of trigonometric and hyperbolic functions. The reflection coefficient, in turn, was defined in terms of the load and line impedances (or any equivalent load impedances such as at a discontinuity). Voltage, current, and power were all related to the reflection coefficient. The reflection coefficient was used to find the conditions on the line, to calculate the line impedance, and to calculate the standing wave ratio. \( \newcommand=0.1515\lambda -0\lambda =0.A look back at much of what we did with transmission lines reveals that perhaps the dominant feature in all our calculations is the use of the reflection coefficient. |
